Sanju Samson penalised after verbal tussle with umpire
Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson has been penalised by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for demonstrating his dissent against umpire’s decision after being given out during RR’s match against DC on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Sanju Samson’s dismissal created huge controversy after the batter was given out by third umpire, having been caught at the long-on by Shai Hope off Mukesh Kumar.
Decision was sent upstairs by on-field umpires in order to check whether Shai Hope was in contact with boundary ropes or not. After checking all angles, third umpire adjudged Samson, who was on (86), keeping RR in the game in their chase of (221), out. Samson’s dismissal didn’t settle well with many, with split opinions trickling in. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson was slapped with a fine of 30% of his match fee.
"Mr Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024," the BCCI statement read.
"Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the statement stated further.
