Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by (2) runs in the 6th match of the ongoing Asia Cup on Tuesday at Gaddafi Stadium. It was a captivating battle with Afghanistan almost on the verge of winning the game and making it to the Super Fours but Sri Lanka's spinner Dhananjay de Silva came out with superb bowling to help Sri Lanka win the match. Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat. Sri Lanka in their batting had witnessed a collective performance from their players as Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne scored (41) and (32) to give the team a good start. Kusal Mendis was the top-scorer for Sri Lanka with his 92-run knock to help Sri Lanka reach 291/8 in 50 overs.

Chasing the target, Afghanistan lost their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (4) and Ibrahim Zadran (7) for the low score but Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi propelled Afghanistan's innings with their scores of (45) and (59) to keep the team into the game. Down the order, Mohammad Nabi made a big difference with his score of (65) runs. With this defeat, Afghanistan have been eliminated from the Asia Cup 2023.
