New Zealand name World Cup squad, Williamson to lead
New Zealand have named their 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup scheduled to get underway from October (5) in India. Kane Williamson will be leading the team after having made progressive recovery from the injury that he picked up during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. There were doubts looming large over Williamson’s presence but he has been on the fastest recovery mode. Williamson’s presence will also be the biggest positive for New Zealand as he is the most experienced player among all. Other players to have found their place in the squad are Devon Conway, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell.
New Zealand’s top-quality bowling attack includes the likes of Tim Southee, and Trent Boult in the pace department while their spin attack includes the likes of Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra. New Zealand will start their World Cup campaign against England in the opening match of the tournament on October 5 in Ahmedabad.
