Shreyas Iyer’s injury ahead of the ODI World Cup (2023) has come as a major concern for team India. Shreyas Iyer didn’t play India’s match against Pakistan where he was replaced by KL Rahul who returned to action after making his recovery from back injury. Iyer had registered his absence in the team for last six to seven months due to back injury which has been a persistent issue for him. Iyer’s absence from India’s playing XI on Sunday also didn’t sit well with many as he recently returned to action after undergoing back surgery. However, it was noted that due to Back Spasm, Shreyas Iyer didn’t play the match against Pakistan.

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was incredibly concerned over Shreyas’s Injury ahead of the World Cup because he felt that Iyer looked in great touch in the last game.

“It’s a worry definitely. If a player is out for 5-6 months with an injury and then, he has a similar injury now with less than a month to go for the World Cup. Yes, it is an area of concern. Luckily, you can make changes in your (World Cup) team. And in case he is unfit and doesn’t recover then there will be somebody who will replace him. It is sad because he looked in good touch while batting against Pakistan. He played a lovely cover drive,” Gavaskar said on India Today.
