SA-W vs NZ-W ODIs: South Africa and New Zealand Women to face each other in the second match
New Zealand Women’s tour of South Africa got off to a disappointing start as they suffered a 4-wicket defeat in the first match on Sunday at Potchefstroom. Both teams are now scheduled to square off against each other in the second ODI on Thursday at City Oval Pietermaritzburg. In the first match, New Zealand had scored (235) in (50) overs after losing (8) wickets. New Zealand’s top order batters lost their wickets in quick succession with Suzie Bates (1), Sophie Devine (5) and Maddy Green (5) getting back with low scores. The brilliant knocks from Brooke Halliday and Hannah Rowe, who both scored (76) and (52) respectively, helped the team get to the modest total. In their chase of the target, South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt gave the team a good start with her fifty, however they lost their middle-order wickets in the space of short period but Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon helped the team in their victory with their scores of (58) and (71). Moving into this match, New Zealand would hope to level the series to remain alive while South Africa would look to register series-clinching victory.
