In the opening game of the Women’s Big Bash League, which will get underway from Thursday (19th October), Sydney Sixers Women and Melbourne Stars Women will be taking on each other at North Sydney Oval in Sydney. This will be both team’s first match, considering which, they would hope for victory to begin their WBBL 2023 campaign on a positive note. Sydney Sixers Women are entering the tournament on the back of their upsetting defeat in the final of the WBBL (2022) against Adelaide Strikers Women. Sydney Sixers Women had won (11) matches out of (14) in the last edition of the tournament as this time too they would look to put in greater efforts to make their case stronger.

Melbourne Stars Women, on the other hand, had only won (5) matches out of (14) due to which they failed to qualify for the knockouts. After having had disappointing season last year, Melbourne Stars Women would hope for their early dominance in the tournament. Looking at the players in Sydney Sixers, they have Alyssa Healy, Suzie Bates, Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner who will be expected to make their impact. Melbourne Stars Women, on the other hand, boast of the likes of Meg Lanning, Alice Capley, Sophia Dunkley, Annabel Sutherland and Kim Garth who would hope to provide the team with good performances.

Sydney Sixers Women Probable XI: Alyssa Healy (wk), Suzie Bates, Ellyse Perry(c), Ashleigh Gardner, Chloe Tryon, Lauren Cheatle, Maitlan Brown, Jess Kerr, Erin Burns, Kate Peterson, Gabrielle Sutcliffe

Melbourne Stars Women Probable XI: Meg Lanning, Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, Maia Bouchier, Annabel Sutherland, Nicole Faltum(c & wk), Kim Garth, Sasha Moloney, Sophie Day, Tess Flintoff, Rhys McKenna
