Buoyed up by the win against England in the first ODI match on Sunday at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, West Indies skipper Shai Hope revealed the most encouraging advice he received from Indian legend MS Dhoni during a chat. Shai Hope, leading the team, played a heroic knock of (109) unbeaten off (83) to take the team over the line to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing a total of 325, West Indies got off to a terrific start with Alick Athanaze and Brandon King scoring (66) and (35) respectively. Shimron Hetmyer scored (32) runs while Keacy Carty and Sherfane Rutherford lost their wickets in a quick succession that gave West Indies a huge headache but pressure from West Indies was taken off by Romario Shepherd who made (48) off (28) to help the side win the battle. After the powerful knock, West Indies skipper Shai Hope opened up about the piece of advice he got from former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

“I had a chat with MS Dhoni some time back and he told me that you always have a lot more time at the crease than you think and that stuck with me,” Shai Hope said after the win against England.

Talking about England, they had settled to bat after winning the toss as they had posted a total of (325) from (50) overs. For England, Phil Salt made a crucial impact while giving the team a nice start with his score of (45). Zak Crawley too came up with a 48-run knock. Skipper Jos Buttler couldn’t get going after losing his wicket for (3) runs. Harry Brook showed his worth by hammering (71) off (72) that also helped the team get to (325). England would hope for a stronger comeback in the second match to level the series on Wednesday.
