“Surprise inclusion”: former Indian cricketer on Yuzvendra Chahal
Not drafted into India’s ODI World Cup squad, Yuzvendra Chahal has found himself back into teams’ squad after his inclusion into India's ODI squad for the series against South Africa. The last time Yuzwendra Chahal was seen in action was back in 2022 last year in an ODI against Bangladesh. Chahal has been off the action for long but it’s a huge comeback for Chahal. However, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his surprise over Chahal’s inclusion into teams’ ODI squad for South Africa.
“I like it. Again this is workload management, but I am excited with the fact that Deepak Chahar is back because I like him as a cricketer. Avesh Khan gets another opportunity,” said Sanjay Manjrekar on Star Sports.
Manjrekar also reflected upon Mukes Kumar by calling him a ‘sturdy’ and ‘dependable’ bowler. Manjrekar observed that fact that Chahal is more of a T20 bowler.
“I believe Mukesh Kumar is a sturdy and dependable bowler, he has come. Chahal is a surprise inclusion. I thought Chahal was more your bowler for T20 cricket but there they have got somebody like a (Ravi) Bishnoi,” he stated.
Team India are entering the field with the young-looking squad as there are new faces being given opportunities. Manjrekar feels that it will be tough challenge but Indian team is strong.
“I am always excited when I see India’s second string or next-generation players. It seems like it is a very strong team but the problem is that South Africa are a formidable team in white-ball cricket and bilateral series. So it will be a stiff test but this team is very good,” he noted.
