In an electrifying encounter on a cold night at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on Thursday, India secured a 6-wicket win against Afghanistan in the first T20 International of the three-match series. The thrilling contest unfolded when Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube showcased his exceptional cricketing skills, setting the stage for India’s victory to lead the series 1-0.

Afghanistan, known for their spirited performances, posted a competitive total after being put into bat by the Indian skipper. Afghanistan could score 158 after Axar Patel led Indian bowling attack restricted Afghanistan to a modest total. Mohammad Nabi top-scored for Afghanistan with his 42-run knock. Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar returned with two wickets each while Shivam Dube claimed one wicket. The Afghanistn innings saw a mix of aggressive strokes and calculated batting, as they showed a great courage against Indian bowlers. 

Chasing the target, India lost Rohit Sharma early on after the mix-up between him and Shubman Gill between the wickets, However, Shubman Gill set the tone with a brisk start, laying the foundation for a successful run chase. Gill scored quick 23 off 12.  The Afghanistan bowlers, however, fought back with timely breakthroughs, keeping the match in the balance. But, Dube’s massive performance guided India to a comfortable win.
