On the unexpected terms, India decided to release fast bowler Mohammed Siraj from the squad for the second Test against England that got underway from Friday (2nd February) in Visakhapatnam. India played Mukesh Kumar in place of Mohammed Siraj in their playing XI for the 2nd Test.

In its release, BCCI opened up about the reason behind releasing Mohammed Siraj from India's squad. BCCI attributed Siraj's absence to the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has had in recent times.

“Mr Mohd. Siraj has been released from the India squad for the second Test against England in Vizag. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has played in recent times. He will be available for selection for the third Test in Rajkot. Avesh Khan has re-joined the team for the 2nd Test,” BCCI stated in a release.

Talking about the second Test, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat as India handed down the debut to Rajat Patidar. Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar were also added to India’s playing XI.

India’s start, however, didn’t go as they would have planned it to unfold after skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill lost their wickets early on. But, Jaiswal remains strong for India with his half-century. England debutant Shoaib Bashir dismissed Rohit Sharma, while James Anderson claimed the wicket of Shubman Gill.

India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Srikar Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav
