Mumbai Indians prevail despite Ashutosh’s blitzy knock

A commendable all-round show from Mumbai Indians helped them seal a thrilling 9-run win over Punjab Kings on Thursday at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Suryakumar’s masterclass helped Mumbai Indians put up a greatly formidable total of 192/7 in 20 overs. Yadav blitzed 78 from 53, demonstrating his prowess in the shortest format of the game. Valuable cameos from Rohit Sharma (36) and Tilak Verma (34) gave further boost to the team. Tim David, dealing in boundaries, cracked two boundaries and one six, scoring 14 off 7 deliveries and maintaining a whopping strike rate of 200. 

Chasing the target, Punjab Kings got off to a clumsy start, with four of their top order batters losing their wickets one after another. Openers Sam Curran and Prabhsimran Singh were dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee respectively. Then again, Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee struck, getting rid of power-hitters Rilee Rossouw and Liam Livingstone respectively. 

Firebrand Ashutosh Sharma kept the game alive for the team, dominating the innings and applying constant pressure on Mumbai bowlers with his valiant 61-run knock off 28 deliveries. Finally, his hard-fought innings came to an end, with experienced Gerald Coetzee claiming the wicket. Earlier, Shashank Sharma kept the team’s chase alive with his (41) off (25). This is MI’s third victory of the season in seven games. Punjab Kings were bowled out for 183 in 19.1 overs.
