Phil Salt played a sizzling knock of 87 runs unbeaten as England thrashed West Indies by 8 wickets in their match of the Super Eight stage of the ongoing T20I World Cup on Thursday at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. The massive batting blitz from Salt aided England in chasing down a target of 181 runs in just 17.3 overs. Phil Salt, in his 87* off 47, smacked three sixes and as many fours to set the tone for England’s strong start to the Super Eight stage.

Salt smacked 30 runs in the 16th over bowled by Romario Shepherd as the defending champions made big strides to topple the host West Indies. Salt was well assisted by Jonny Bairstow, who contributed an unbeaten 48 runs, forging an unbroken 97-run partnership for the third wicket. West Indies bowlers, on the other hand, had no respite from the assertive batting attack from England.

Earlier, West Indies after being asked to bat, posted 180 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs, with Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran hitting 38 and 36 respectively. The massive difference was made by Rovman Powell, who smoked five sixes in his brief 36-run knock off 17.
