Indian pace ace Jasprit Bumrah had a massive impact on India’s victory at the recently concluded T20I World Cup 2024 with his economic and tight spells, helping India challenge oppositions eyeball to eyeball. If it wasn’t for Bumrah’s blazing spell in the final against South Africa, India would have found themselves in a difficult situation after seeing the way South Africa were operating with the bat.
But, Bumrah’s spell in the 16th over of the match put India back into the game, conceding only four runs to give India upper hand in the match. Bumrah finished the tournament with 15 wickets and was named player of the tournament. After India’s title victory at the T20I World Cup 2024 in 17 years, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja took a major decision, announcing their retirements from T20 International.
Amid the retirements from three veterans, the bigger question in fans’ mind remained whether Jasprit Bumrah was also pondering retirement, but Bumrah cleared the air by making it clear that he didn’t have any such plans as of now.
"It is a long way away. I have just started. I am very happy that I have done well. Hopefully, it is far away now," said Bumrah during team India's felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium.
"It feels amazing. This ground is really special in my life. I came as an U19 kid, started playing. What I have seen today on the ground, on the streets and the people over here. I have never seen anything like that. To experience this and the emotions that we felt after the game is unreal. And, I will never ever forget them and the memories I have with me now," Bumrah said.
