"I feel like I'm still bowling as well as I ever have”: James Anderson ahead of international swansong
The outgoing England veteran James Anderson has made peace with his forthcoming England retirement despite him carrying the thought of bowling as well as he ever has done. England’s management apprised Anderson of their decision that they would be moving on from the evergreen pacer, who is the leading wicket-taker among fast bowlers with 700 victims.
Anderson’s retirement will mark the end of an era for England cricket, however his perseverance towards excellence will prevail forever. Anderson’s international career will end during England’s first Test against West Indies that will begin from Wednesday at Lord’s.
"I feel like I'm still bowling as well as I ever have. But I knew it had to end at some point, whether it's now or in a year or two,” Anderson said during the press conference.
"The fact it's now is something I've got to deal with and accept. As I said I’m really excited about what I can contribute to this team. The last couple of months I've made peace with that."
"I'd love just to be able to contribute somehow this week. Whether it's one wicket or whatever it is, I'd love just to make a small contribution and win the game.
In his 187 Test matches, Anderson has claimed 700 wickets, being the third among highest wicket-taker in Tests and is the leading among all fast bowlers. As he now gears up to play his swansong, he has chance to surpass the record of late legendary Shane Warne, who carries 708 wickets.
“Obviously, I’d love to take wickets but it’s easier said than done. I’ve never really been bothered about personal milestones, obviously they’re lovely when they do come along,” Anderson said.
