Rachin Ravindra handed New Zealand’s central contract

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has awarded central contracts to several of its players, recognizing their significant contributions and promising potential. Players, who have received their first New Zealand central contracts, are young Rachin Ravindra, Ben Sears, Will O’Rourke and Jacob Duffy in the 20-player list.

Left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel has also made his comeback to the list. Young talent Rachin Ravindra was a breakout performer at the ODI World Cup 2023, shattering records with his searing batting performances. At the World Cup, he amassed 578 runs. Rachin Ravindra was also impactful in Test format, blazing 240 at Mount Maunganui against South Africa in February earlier this year.

"Growing up you'd see those contract lists come out each year and think it would be cool to be on that list one day - and for it to eventuate now is a pinch-myself moment. It's been a really cool past 12 months playing international cricket. I've learned a lot and the hunger is definitely there to keep improving and giving to the Blackcaps,” Ravindra was quoted as saying in a NZC release.

"It's such a special group to be in, from players to support staff - and that's been the most enjoyable part, to be honest. Playing a game you love with your mates for a living is something very special, and I hold it close to my heart."

Formidable players such as Kane Williamson, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne had declined NZ’s central contracts. Neil Wagner was overlooked after he retired from international cricket last year.

New Zealand central contracts: Finn Allen, Tom Blundell, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Will O'Rourke, Ajaz Patel, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Will Young
