“We're quality players of spin”: Washington Sundar defends India’s struggle against spin

Huge anticipation is building up in the lead-up to the third and final ODI match between India and Sri Lanka, to be held on Wednesday in Colombo. With Sri Lanka leading the series 1-0 and India determined to level the playing field, the stage is set for a thrilling showdown.

The series began with a nail-biting first ODI that ended in a tie and Sri Lanka made big gains in the second game, securing a dominant win, thus leading the series 1-0.

However, despite the setback, India will be undeterred and expect their middle-order batters to up the ante to secure a positive result in the game. Speaking ahead of the third match, Indian spinner Washington Sundar defended the batters, who have faced challenging times against Sri Lanka's spin attack, by saying “it’s just a matter of time" and Indian players are good at tackling spin.

"We're quality players of spin. We've always played on these kinds of pitches, even at home, even in Test matches. In domestic cricket we play a lot of games on such wickets. A lot of our players have done really well, especially in the middle order, especially batting against spin,” Washington Sundar said during the press conference.

"It's just a matter of finding a way in their own individual self, and trying to get the job done. Everyone knows it's quit a challenging wicket. The Indian team has always been one where everyone puts their hands up, especially when the challenge arises and that’s when we’ve been very good with both bat and ball. It’s just finding a way individually and getting the job done.”

India have never lost a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka since 1997 and this series has turned out to be incredibly challenging for them as they look to find their way back to winning ways.
