“It was emotional because…”: Rishabh Pant on his return to Test cricket

Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant made an exceptionally remarkable comeback to Test cricket, marking his return with a scintillating century in India’s victory over Bangladesh in the first Test of their two-match series on Sunday in Chennai. Pant’s extraordinary talent was on full display, highlighted his resilience following a horrible car crash in late 2022 that put him on the sidelines for almost two years.
The accident, which occurred in December 2022, left Pant with serious injuries, requiring multiple surgeries. There was looming fear that his cricketing career could be jeopardised, but Pant's determination helped him make a commendable recovery. In the first Test against Bangladesh, Pant displayed his trademark aggressive batting style, scoring a stunning century that was pivotal in securing India’s victory. With his century, Pant equalled the record of MS Dhoni in terms of most centuries as an Indian wicketkeeper.
"A lot special because I love playing in Chennai, first of all. And secondly, after injury, I think I wanted to play all three formats and this was my first Test match after coming back. Just loving it every day,” Pant said after India’s victory.
"Definitely, it was emotional because coming back I wanted to score in each and every match, which I couldn't do. But coming back to Test cricket, where I belong most is great. I enjoyed batting out there and just got a little bit emotional. But at end of the day, just being on the field gives me more pleasure than doing anything else."
