“The mindset of Rohit Sharma…”: Ex-Australian star commends Rohit Sharma’s captaincy

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Brad Haddin has commended Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and the team for the remarkable performance in the second and final Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur, where they recorded a famous win despite the challenges posed by persistent rain that disrupted play for two days.

India’s resilience and skill were on full display, allowing them to secure a 2-0 series sweep. As the play on day four began, it had seemed to be heading towards a draw but Rohit Sharma’s bold calls coupled with extraordinary performances from the players helped India register a sizzling win.

“They gave themselves a chance to win the game. But, actually, It wasn’t about 'How many runs I score', it is about finding enough time to bowl Bangladesh out. They played a great brand of cricket, but it was all about giving themselves enough time to bowl Bangladesh out. My hat goes off to support staff, Rohit Sharma... he has always been this sort of captain. He thinks, win first, then everything second,” Haddin said on LisTNR podcast.

“They gave themselves a chance to win a Test match that was going to fizzle out into a draw, I love the style of cricket. They could have easily had a really good net session, got a draw and no one would have said anything. The mindset of Rohit Sharma to find a way to manipulate a result.. to say okay if we bat for x what we have to chase later and teams aren’t scared of going at 10 and over for 20 overs now because of the way T20 and how explosive some of their batters are so I take my hat off to India because they gave themselves a chance to win the game,” he said.

In the first innings, India had bowled out Bangladesh for 233, and in reply India declared on 285/9d. In the second innings, Bangladesh could only manage to get 146, setting a target of 95 for India. India, meanwhile, reached the target very quickly only for the loss of three wickets.
