Mitchell Starc talks about strategy behind Jaiswal's first-ball dismissal
On the opening day (Friday) of the pink-ball Test match in Adelaide, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc stole the spotlight with an impressive five-wicket haul, putting Australia in a strong position. Starc played an instrumental role in dismissing key Indian batsmen, but one dismissal, in particular, stood out — that of Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Starc has now revealed the thought process behind the delivery that claimed Jaiswal's wicket on the very first ball he faced.
“At the stumps, hit the pads. That's it. Nothing special," Starc said during the post-match press conference.
“That’s been my role for a while: to attack the stumps and try and make early inroads. Pleased to sneak one past today. We know how important it is to make early inroads into this batting lineup,” he said.
“It’s always a nice way to start. It is a big Test match, it’s a big series.”
Starc returned with the best figures of his Test career (6-48) to skittle India for 180. Starc's meticulous plan behind all the stunning dismissals paid off as Australia completely dominated India at the end of day one. On day one, Australia lost Usman Khawaja early on But Nathan McSweeney (38*) and Marnus Labuschagne (20*) faced the pumped up Indian pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, with utmost determination.
