IND vs ENG: Former Indian opener lambasts Pandya’s batting approach in 3rd T20I
England have kept themselves alive in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England by beating India in the third T20I, which was held on Tuesday in Rajkot. England decimated India in all departments to bring down the deficit to 2-1. England’s disciplined bowling while defending a total of 171, made it difficult for India to challenge them. Indian players such as Sanju Samson, skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma couldn’t deliver when needed most.
Tilak Varma, who had powered India to a riveting victory in the second game, departed for 18 off 14. India were limited to 145/9 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya, however, showed courage, plundering 40 off 35, but his innings could not save India from a defeat. After India’s defeat, former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel slammed Pandya for taking so many deliveries to get started.
"One cannot take 20-25 balls to get set in a T20I. Can't take 20-25 balls to get set. I understand taking your time but you have to keep rotating the strike. Hardik may have ended up with 40 off 35, but there were a lot of dot balls at the start of his innings," Parthiv Patel said during the post-match show on Star Sports as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Deciding to field, India had kept England under the pump, with Varun Chakaravarathy striking at regular intervals. He returned with five wickets. However, England's powerful start on the back of Ben Duckett’s masterful fifty lifted them to a competitive total.
