Definitely could be the next captain: former Indian cricketer on Hardik Pandya

Team India are gearing up to start their Asia Cup 2023 campaign under the leadership of Rohit Sharma as The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) announced India’s 17-member squad for the mega event. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandy has been named as deputy to Rohit Sharma. India’s squad for the Asia Cup consisted of quality players with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer making their return to the team after recovering from injuries. Jasprit Bumrah is also featuring in India’s squad after making recovery from injury. Currently, Bumrah is busy with India’s assignment in Ireland as he is leading team India in the three-match T20I series.
Recently, Hardik Pandya led India in the five-match T20I series against West Indies where India suffered 2-3 series defeat which brought focus on Pandya’s leadership. Even, Hardik’s show with the bat remained quite dry as he scored (77) runs across five matches. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Madan Lal backed Pandya to be India’s next skipper but put forth his concern regarding Pandya’s form.
“See, he definitely could be the next captain, the way he is going about leading in T20Is. But my concern is not that. Hardik has to perform. He is so talented and has done well, but where is the Hardik Pandya that scored 92 against Australia? That sort of form I want to see Hardik in,” Madan Lal told Hindustan Times on the sidelines of the CEAT Awards.
“At the same time, I am very happy that he is bowling. We need him bowling in the World Cup as that sixth bowler. They have given him a very important role and Hardik has to ensure that he does well,” he said.
