Former Indian cricketer expresses disappointment over KL Rahul's Asia Cup selection
Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth has hit out at Indian selectors for including KL Rahul into India’s Asia Cup squad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. India’s squad also saw the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer as they both made recoveries from their respective injuries. Despite being included into the squad, chief selector Ajit Agarkar expressed his doubts over KL Rahul’s participation in the first match of the Asia Cup. It’s been tumultuous times for KL Rahul while dealing with injury that he picked up during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Following the injury, KL Rahul had undergone surgery that required time for recuperation.
Following KL Rahul’s inclusion into India’s Asia Cup squad, former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth didn’t prefer the inclusion of Rahul despite being unfit.
“It’s being said that KL Rahul has a niggle. If you have a niggle, don’t pick him in the squad. If a player is not fit during selection, you shouldn’t pick him. That was our policy. On the day of selection, If a player is not fit, don’t select him,”Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
“If you want to pick him for the World Cup, select him for the World Cup. That’s a different issue. Now they are saying that he might play after a couple of matches and that’s why we have picked Sanju Samson as a travelling reserve. What’s all this.”
