Big blow to Australia ahead of T20I series vs South Africa, Maxwell ruled out due to ankle injury
South Africa and Australia will be coming across each other in the first match of the three-match T20I series on Wednesday at Kingsmead. Both teams will be entering the series with the set of powerful players. Aiden Markram will be leading South Africa with the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma, Tristan Stubbs and Reeza Hendricks. But, Australia will be taking the field without their massive batter Glenn Maxwell who has been ruled out of the series due to ankle injury. Cricket Australia confirmed on Monday that Maxwell suffered a minor aggravation during a net session in Durban.
“We will monitor Glenn’s recovery with a view to him being available for the three-match ODI series in India in advance of the World Cup,” selector Tony Dodemaide said as quoted by Cricket.com.au.
Already, Australia are missing the services of their top-order players such as Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and David Warner. However, Matthew Wade has been incorporated into the squad as replacement.
However, Australia are having the likes of Adam Zampa, Spencer Johnson and Jason Behrendorff. Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh in the absence of Pat Cummins. Both teams will have a mammoth task of making their dominance over each other. After this three-match series, both teams will take on each other in the five-match ODI series beginning 8th September.
