Asia Cup 2023: Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 89 runs to register their first victory

In the fourth match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh thrashed Afghanistan by (89) runs to register their first victory of the tournament on Sunday at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Bangladesh had played exceptional cricket to outplay Afghanistan in the crucial encounter. Mehidy Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto were the standout performers for the team with their centuries. Mehidy Hasan was retired hurt on (112) while Najmul Hossain Shanto was run out for (104). With the heavy scoring from these two players, Bangladesh set the target of (334/5) in (50) overs after winning the toss and going for batting. 

Chasing the target, Afghanistan lost their attacking batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz (1) very early. But, they found some hope with the scores from Ibrahim Zadran (75) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (51), but after their wickets, Afghanistan kept losing their batters at regular intervals. Bangladesh restricted Afghanistan to (245) in (44.3) overs. For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam returned with four and three wickets respectively.
