Maxwell may give a miss to the ODI series against India

Australia’s fierce batsman Glenn Maxwell is living in doubts to play the Australia’s upcoming ODI series against India. The series against India will be the most crucial for Australia in the lead up to the ODI World Cup 2023. Glenn Maxwell’s injury played a spoiler for him recently as he couldn’t participate in the Australia’s recently concluded T20I series against South Africa. Ahead of the series against South Africa, Maxwell had picked up ankle injury while training in the nets. Now, Maxwell has stated that he is eager to play in the series against India but is not going to put pressure on himself as he is prioritising his fitness ahead of the World Cup.

“I still want to play some part of that India series. But I’m not feeling any pressure on it. The selectors and the staff have been brilliant with me as well. They don’t want to put too much pressure on me to sort of set that date because they know they’ve got a bit of extra time before the World Cup. So instead of rushing it and probably putting myself a week or two behind, being able to give myself extra time and make sure we get through the whole tournament,” said Maxwell during Big Bash League’s (BBL) overseas draft on Sunday.

Maxwell had earlier suffered serious injury last year in November but he made recovery and participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Maxwell is, meanwhile, expected to be added to Australia’s initial squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 for which the last date is September 5. And the date to announce the final squad is September 28. Australia, before travelling to India for the ODI series, will play against South Africa in the five-match ODI series.

“I don’t think I could have predicted how sore I was going to be once I got to South Africa. But it was one of those things. Even when I went to train that day, I still felt fine. There was nothing wrong. Something just got impinged. I think one of the tendons around my ankle was a little bit inflamed, there’s a bit of swelling, so it kept on catching which meant it just gave me a bit of pain,”  stated Maxwell.
