News

Ahead of their Super fours campaign in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh have suffered a massive setback in the form of their massive batter Najmul Hossain Shanto who has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Shanto has been one of the main architects behind Bangldesh’s journey into top four. Shanto is the leading run-getter in the ongoing Asia Cup with his brilliant performance. Shanto scored (89) runs in Bangladesh’s match against Sri Lanka while he came out with century in Bangladesh’s match against Afghanistan where they recorded 89-run victory to make it to super fours.

“The player had complained of hamstring pain during batting and could not field. We had an MRI scan done confirming a muscle tear,” the physio said in a statement.

“As a precaution, Shanto will not take any further part in the tournament and will be returning home to start rehab and prepare for the World Cup.”

However, Bangladesh will take comfort with the return of Litton Das who has returned to the team after missing group-stage matches. Das was down with fever but is now in good health and will join Bangladesh’s super fours campaign.
