ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: All you need to know, teams, format
There has been lots of enthusiasm and wait building up among fans in the run up to the ODI World Cup 2023 but the wait is soon going to be over as the high-profile event is set to get underway from October (5) in India. This time the mega event is being hosted by India as it will be played across ten venues. The tournament will be kicking off with the match between defending champions England and runner-up New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. There are ten teams competing in the event that includes, India, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Netherlands. This time there is a surprise exclusion in the form of two-time champions West Indies who failed to qualify for the tournament.
The tournament will be played in the round-robin format where all ten teams will come across one another for one match each as there will be (45) group-stage matches during this period. The eagerly awaited India vs Pakistan clash will be played on October (14) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. During group-stage fixtures, if there is no outcome in a match between two teams then, both teams will be awarded one point each. At the end of the group stage fixtures, top four teams will be heading into the semifinals. Teams finishing on first and fourth position will see each other in the first semifinals on October (15). And the teams having second and third position will face each other in the second semifinals on October (16). The winners of these matches will qualify for the final which will be played on November 19.
