South Africa thrash Afghanistan, accumulate more confidence for semi-final

South Africa successfully chased down the target of (244) to register a five-wicket win over Afghanistan on Friday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Earlier, Afghanistan had decided to bat after winning the toss but they didn't get the start on expected lines after Rahmatullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran could score (25) and (15) before losing their wickets. Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi too didn't get going after scoring (26) and (2) respectively. Azmatullah Omarzai top scored with his 97-run knock to lead the side to a modest total of (244) in (50) overs. For South Africa, Gerald Coetzee returned with four wickets. Chasing the target, South Africa got a good start with Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma scoring (41) and (23) respectively. In the middle, Rassie van der Dussen continued with his momentum to score (76) runs unbeaten to guide the team to a confident win. With this defeat, Afghanistan's chances of making it to the semi-final have come to a close.
