Quinton de Kock’s illustrious ODI career comes to an end as SA make WC semi-final exit
Ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock had announced that he will be retiring from the One Day International cricket, but Quinton de Kock wouldn’t have wanted to end his ODI career on a negative note. South Africa on Thursday slumped to their 3-wicket defeat against Australia in the World Cup semi-final that also brought an end to their World Cup campaign on a negative note. South Africa had carried out a fantastic campaign where they came out with their courageous performances to establish themselves as one of the frontrunners to make it to the final, but sadly their campaign ended on a negative note. South Africa, however, had held their nerve to keep Australia under pressure in the semi-final but in the end Australia prevailed to enter into the final of the tournament. Quinton de Kock in his World Cup outings churned out (594) runs from his ten innings that also saw him finish as the second-highest scorer in the World Cup 2023. Despite finishing his ODI career on a negative note, Quinton de Kock finished his World Cup campaign positively with his powerful outings. Quinton de Kock scored four centuries in the World Cup 2023, the most by any batter. Looking at de Kock’s ODI records, he has played (155) ODI matches in which he has successfully accumulated (6770) runs at an average of (45.74) and a strike rate of (96.64). Across his ODI career, Quinton de Kock has registered (21) centuries. All in all, Quinton de Kock’s ODI career was brimmed with illustrious performances as he bids adieu to the One Day International cricket.
