World Cup 2023: Travis Head’s ton fetches Australia their sixth World Cup title

Australia have successfully lifted their record sixth ODI World Cup title after they trounced India by six wickets in the final on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Travis Head’s phenomenal century-laden knock propelled Australia to victory over unbeaten India. Chasing a modest total of 240, Australia lost their first three batters in early succession with Indian bowlers taking advantage with the new ball, but Australia meant business as Travis Head and Marcus Labuschange got together to build a 192-run stand to take the team to a glorious win. India, having been put to bat, registered a flying start with Rohit Sharma hammering 31-ball 47 but Gill and Iyer fell for four runs each. The innings from Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul(66) pushed India to the combative total of 240. India’s unbeaten streak came to a disappointing end after they looked incredibly solid to win the title since the start of the tournament. There was a huge home crowd in the stadium supporting India but it didn’t turn out to be the way it was thought of. India were the most favourite side but slumped in the final as their quest for the prestigious title came to a poor end.
