Mohammed Shami slams ex-Pakistan player for making baseless ball claims

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, upon his inclusion into India’s playing XI of the World Cup, made an instant impact with his magnificent spell. India, however, couldn’t win the World Cup but they remained impressive throughout the tournament with their players coming out with record-setting performances. Mohammed Shami had remained away from the team for the first four matches but once he was added to the proceedings, he wrecked havoc with his fierce spell to give the opposition teams harrowing times. Mohammed Shami finished the World Cup as the highest-wicket taker with his (24) wickets.

India’s brilliance at the ODI World Cup was there for all to see as they made a big mark, however, they slumped in the final while conceding defeat against Australia. During the World Cup, a former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza had said that ICC could be serving different balls to Indian bowlers to take the advantage of the conditions. Reacting to all that, Mohammed Shami rubbished the claims of Pakistan players.

“When I started playing, I took five wickets then took four and then another fifer. Few Pakistani players couldn’t digest it. They think they are the best. Best are those who perform at the right time. You are creating controversy unnecessarily. You are saying we are getting different company balls with different colours. Mend your ways,” Shami said in a podcast with Puma.

“The same thing, Wasim Akram had explained in an interview, how the ball is chosen. But despite that you say all this? It is understandable if you have not played the game at the level. But when an ex-player talks all these things, I don’t think people would do anything else besides laughing it off,” Shami said.
