WBBL 2023: Stars beat Renegades in a rain-hit clash as both teams end their campaign on a dull note

Melbourne Stars Women thrashed Melbourne Renegades Women by eight runs (DLS) in the rain-affected game on Saturday at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. Deciding to bat, Melbourne Stars Women scored 118 in 20 overs on the back of a 36-run knock from Annabel Sutherland. Tess Flintoff and Nicole Faltum scored 22 and 20* runs respectively. Chasing the target, Melbourne Renegades went two down in three overs with Kim Garth returning with two early breakthroughs. Meanwhile, rain halted the proceedings as it was again resumed for one-and-a-half over but rain again brought the curtains on the proceedings. Renegades Women were 27/2 in 5.3 overs which was eight runs short of a par score that resulted in their defeat. Both teams have now finished the tournament on a disappointing note with both teams languishing at the bottom in the points table. Melbourne Renegades Women finished at the bottom with 2 wins out of 14 matches while suffering defeats in 12 matches. Melbourne Renegades Women, on the other hand, finished second at the bottom in the points table with 6 wins out of 14 matches as they conceded 8 defeats. It’s been a rather sad campaign for both teams after having failed to make noticeable gains in the tournament.
