The second day of the ongoing second Test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh has been called off due to persistent rain. There was no action on day 2 due to continuous rainfall, following which umpires decided to call off the day. After creating history by winning the first game, Bangladesh continued to dominate the proceedings in the second Test match as well after it got underway on Wednesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh built pressure on New Zealand in their first innings after dismissing their top batters in quick succession with Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam returning with three and two wickets respectively. Earlier, Bangladesh had decided to bat after winning the toss with Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahadat Hossain being the top-scorer with their scores of (35) and (31) respectively. Bangladesh had struggled with their other batters as they had been bowled out for (172). New Zealand bowlers Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips took three wickets each to wrap up Bangladesh’s innings early. Ajaz Patel and Tim Southee also contributed after claiming two and one wicket respectively. The kind of struggle Bangladesh faced against kiwi spinners, similarly, Bangladesh spinners took advantage of the spin conditions to dismantle New Zealand batters. At stumps on day two, New Zealand remained 55/5 in their first innings with Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips unbeaten on (12) and (5) respectively.
