Arshdeep Singh's dominant spell against proteas

India’s rising pacers Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan wreaked havoc in South Africa’s batting unit with their exceptional spells to bowl out proteas for the paltry of (116) after all of South Africa's explosive batters failed to help the side with runs. Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan returned with five and four wickets respectively to limit South Africa to a low total. Arshdeep Singh became the first Indian fast bowler to claim the five-wicket haul against South Africa in ODIs. It was also a huge relief for KL Rahul who guided the team to victory with his tremendous leadership skills. India achieved the target in (16.4) overs with Shreyas Iyer and Sai Sudharsan scoring their half-centuries. It was South Africa’s lowest total at home. The (116) also came as a ninth-lowest ODI total for South Africa overall. South Africa’s struggle was obvious to be seen against Indian bowlers. After taking five wickets, Arshdeep said that he was trying to keep the things simple.

“Was mainly trying to keep it simple. Before the game, I felt a little pressured because I had not opened my account in ODIs. Three games before this, to start off with a fifer feels special. The wicket was helpful as well. When we had a chat, we thought there won’t be much movement, but we were surprised. There was a little breeze as well, some purchase from the wicket as well. So, the plan was to keep it simple and hit the wickets and get for lbws.” Arshdeep Singh said after the innings.
