“We can perform under any conditions”: Rohit Sharma
Bouncing back from their crushing defeat by an innings and 32 runs, India thrashed South Africa in the second Test match on day two on Thursday at Newlands by seven wickets to level the two-match series 1-1. Given 79 to win, India got past the target ahead of the tea to produce a memorable victory.
India's star of the show remained Mohammed Siraj who had skittled the host for 55 on day one with his six wickets. In their second innings, South Africa could muster 176 on the back of an organised 106-run knock from Aiden Markram. India’s pace attack led by Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Mukesh Kumar helped India overpower South Africa. After India’s victory, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma credited Indian bowlers for coming out with good performances. Rohit also highlighted teams’ learning from their last defeat in Centurion.
“In Centurion, we got to learn from whatever mistakes we made in that Test match. We came back pretty well (in the 2nd game), even though the conditions were tough for the batters, but the bowlers still put the ball in the right areas. We really had some plans as to what we wanted to do. And the boys got rewarded for it, something that you don’t get to see quite often,” said Sharma after the match.
Rohit took a lot of pride in teams’ magnificent performance and asserted teams’ ability to perform under any condition.
“Whenever you come to this part of the world, it’s always challenging. But in the last four or five years we have become a very good travelling team. We’ve played a lot of good cricket outside India, and we take a lot of pride in performance outside India,” he said.
"For us to come out here and win like this gives us a lot of confidence that we can perform under any conditions,” stated Rohit.
