IND vs ENG: Stokes confirms Leach's absence from 2nd Test, hints at Bashir's inclusion

England skipper Ben Stokes has confirmed Jack Leach’s absence from the second Test against India after having been ruled out due to injury. Jack Leach’s absence could make the way for young spinner Shoaib Bashir to make his debut. Bashir could not join the England team for the first Test due to visa concerns and headed back to UK.

England have yet to name their playing XI for the second Test, meanwhile, Stokes has already decided to wait till Thursday before announcing the playing XI for the second game.

“He’s ruled out of the second Test. Unfortunately, the knock he took resulted in a haematoma in his leg. It’s a big shame for us, a big shame for Jack, obviously after a long time out of the game with his back,” Stokes said.

Even though, Bashir has linked up with the team and Ben Stokes signalling at his inclusion for the second Test, it still remains in doubts whether Bashir will be in the playing XI for the second Test, because Stokes refrained from confirming Bashir's inclusion.

“If he was to play on this tour, then the great thing he has on his side is, what is there to lose?” Stokes said.

“That is how I will be thinking about it, if he gets the chance to play: just to make sure I can give him the best experience I possibly can. Because you only play your first Test match once. If he does play, then I will be trying to make it as enjoyable and fun for him as I can,” he said.
