Pujara overtakes legendary Brian Lara for a mammoth record
India’s outstanding batter Cheteshwara Pujara has created history by slamming his 66th first-class century during the second round of Ranji Trophy match between Saurashtra and Chhattisgarh on Monday. This incredible achievement helped Pujara surpass West Indies legend Brian Lara in terms of most first-class hundreds. Pujara also turned his hundred into double hundred which further lifted him in the record books.
This was Pujara’s 18th double hundred and with the help of this he has now become the fourth batter with most double hundreds in first-class cricket. He is only behind Don Bradman (37), Wally Hammond (36), and Patsy Hendren (22). Pujara has been a prominent batter for Saurashtra, having rescued them on a lot of occasions in the past. Pujara made his first-class debut for Saurashtra way back in 2005.
