Levelling the two-match Test series 1-1, Australia and West Indies are ramping up their preparations to play the three-match ODI series, slated to start from Friday (February 2nd) at Melbourne Cricket Ground. It’s going to be an exhilarating showdown between Australia and West Indies who both have announced their full-strength squad. The stage is set for a thrilling battle between two cricketing giants.

Australia enter the three-match series as the World Cup champions, after overcoming India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final in November at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to record their sixth ODI World Cup title. Building up to the series, Australia have rested their senior players Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell.

In the absence of senior players, Australia have decided to hand opportunities to their young players with Lance Morris, Xavier Bartlett and Will Sutherland being handed chances.

Australia will be led by Steve Smith with the availability from experienced players Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis. Going into the first game, Australia will have a major task to fill their opening slot in ODIs after their regular opener David Warner announced his retirement from ODIs ahead of his final Test match at Sydney Cricket Ground recently.

West Indies, on the other hand, will enter this series on the back of their positive results in their previous assignments at home. Their most recent victory came against England wherein they beat them by 2-1, taking a series-winning result. West Indies will be eying a progressive start after failing to qualify for the recently held ODI World Cup 2023.

The game will be getting underway at 9:00 AM (IST).

Australia Probable XI: Josh Inglis (wk) Travis Head, Steve Smith (c), Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Short, Lance Morris, Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa

West Indies Probable XI: Alick Athanaze Justin Greaves Keacy Carty Shai Hope (c&wk), Kavem Hodge, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde, Oshane Thomas, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie
