Resuming their first innings with an overnight score of 258/2 with Kane Williamsmon and Rachin Ravindra unbeaten on (112) and (118), New Zealand put out a solid total of (511) before being bowled out on day two of the first Test against South Africa at Bay Oval.

After suffering early blows, New Zealand bounced back strongly on the emphatic knocks coming in from Williamson and Rachin Ravindra. Williamson lost his wicket after contributing (118), but Rachin Ravindra continued to pummel South Africa, scoring his double hundred in Test cricket to become the second-youngest New Zealand batter to score a Test double hundred.

Ravindra also became the fourth New Zealand batter to covert a maiden Test hundred into a maiden double hundred. Ahead of him are Martin Donnelly, Mathew Sinclair and Devon Conway

South Africa in their first innings got off to a subdued start with New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson returning with two early breakthroughs to leave visitors on 80/4 at stumps on day two of the first Test. Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner chipped in with one wicket each to reduce the visitors further down
