In a showdown, which was a do or die for Afghanistan, Sri Lanka secured a resounding victory over Afghanistan in the second ODI of the three-match series to take an unassailable 2-0 series-clinching lead. The match played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Sunday witnessed Sri Lanka's stellar performance both with the bat and the ball, collective a 155-run win in their emphatic victory.

Deciding to bat, Sri Lanka posted a huge total of 308/6 for Afghanistan with Kusal Media (61), Sadeera Samarawickrama (52), Charith Asalanka (97*) and Janith Liyanage (50), churning out the best from their bats. After losing openers Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando early, four of these batters helped Sri Lanka assert their dominance over Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, chasing a formidable target, faced an uphill battle against Sri Lanka's disciplined bowling attack led by spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. Afghanistan lost their strong opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz for (8) runs leaving the team under much pressure. Middle-order batters Ibrahim Zadrana and Rahmat Shah scored their half-centuries to bring some hopes, but Sri Lanka’s powerful bowling attack made it difficult for Afghanistan to get over the line, bowling them out for (153) in (33.5) overs.
