PSL 2024: Defending champions Lahore Qalandars meet Islamabad United in the opener
As the excitement picks up the momentum, Pakistan Super League is finally here with the face-off between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United in the opening match of the tournament, scheduled to be played on Saturday at Gaddafi Stadium.
Lahore Qalandars emerged victorious in the last edition of the tournament, defeating Multan Sultan by one run to earn the title under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi. Islamabad United will be led by all-rounder Shadab Khan.
Both teams will get down to the field with a formidable set of players. Lahore Qalandars, led by their strong bowler Shaheen Afridi, have big hitters with the likes of Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique and Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the batting order. Their bowling attack is nothing sort of remarkable with the destructive pair Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. They are missing the services of Rashid Khan.
Islamabad United, on the other hand, boast a terrific talent with the batters like Alex Hales, Colin Munro and Haider Ali in the batting order. They have other solid players in the form of Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf and Agha Salman. They will further be solidified with the availability of Naseem Shah and Obed McCoy.
The contest is going to be incredibly swashbuckling with both teams looking forward to starting off their campaign on a winning note. Both teams have played 17 games against each other with Islamabad United having greater record with nine wins against Lahore Qalandars having eight victories.
Lahore Qalandars Probable XI: Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Rassie van der Dussen, Dan Lawrence, Kamran Ghulam, Sikandar Raza, David Wiese, Shaheen Afridi (c), Haris Rauf, Zaman Khan, Syed Faridoun
Islamabad United Probable XI: Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Shadab Khan (c), Salman Agha, Azam Khan, Haider Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Naseem Shah, Tymal Mills, Obed McCoy.
