IRE vs AFG One-Off Test: Ireland clinch their historic win

In a historic moment for Ireland cricket team, they secured their maiden Test victory in their eighth attempt in more than six years since they first made their debut in the longest format of the game. Ireland thrashed Afghanistan by six wickets in their One-Off Test match on Friday at Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi. 

Skipper Andrew Balbirnie played an instrumental role with his half-century to steer the side to their first victory in the longest format of the game. They made their debut in the longest format back in 2018. Chasing a target of 111, Ireland opener PJ Moor lost his wicket for a duck, while Balbirnie remained firm with his 58-run score unbeaten, taking the team to a huge win. 

Afghanistan, in their second innings, faced a big challenge from Ireland, losing their top-order batters for low scores. They were lifted a little with the help of Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring (55) and (46) respectively, to reach (218). 

Talking about the match, Opting to bat first, Afghanistan could post (155) in their first innings, thanks to Ibrahim Zadran’s half-century. Ireland's bowler Mark Adair showcased resilience, claiming five wickets to cripple Afghanistan. 

In response, Ireland's batsmen displayed composure and skill as they put up (263) in their first innings. Ireland had steady innings from Curtis Campher, Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker scoring (49), (52) and (46) respectively. Ireland’s maiden victory has infused a sense of jubilation among players as they continue to pick up pace.
