The day three, on Saturday, of the ongoing first Test match between New Zealand and Australia at Basin Reserve belonged to New Zealand as they chase 369 target. New Zealand went three down, but in-form Rachin Ravindra stand guard with his impressive innings. Young Ravindra remains the huge hope for New Zealand for their victory against Australia who were wrapped up by New Zealand's part-time spinners for (179) in their second innings. Glenn Phillips returned with five scalps to bring New Zealand back into the game against their arch-rivals.

New Zealand, in their chase, plummeted to 59/3, but Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell forged an unbeaten 52-run partnership to raise the hopes for their side’s victory. Still, Australia remain the favourite to win the game with the likes of impeccable bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood

Earlier, New Zealand roared back into the game on the back of Glenn Phillips’ brilliant spell, removing the big batters like Cameron Green, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey. Phillips claimed the figures of 5-45, registering the best figures by a New Zealand player against Australia. The day four will witness both teams in a hurdle to clinch the victory. New Zealand eye their first Test victory against Australia on home soil in nearly 30 years.
