Looking to leave the past behind, Delhi Capitals will be embarking on quest for redemption and victory in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After a disappointing campaign last year that saw them finish at the bottom of the points table, Delhi Capitals are gearing up to perform full throttle and reclaim their status as one of the top contenders in the tournament.
During the IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals endured challenging times, managing to secure only five wins from 14 games. Their lackluster performance saw them being eliminated from the tournament quite early. However, this new season will present them with a fresh opportunity for a comeback as Delhi Capitals will be poised to make a strong resurgence this season.
One of the most bolstering factors contributing to the Capitals' optimism is the return of their regular captain, Rishabh Pant who missed the entire tournament last year after suffering fatal injuries following a horrific car crash in December 2022.
The explosive wicketkeeper-batter was recently cleared to play by the BCCI’s medical team. Following the car crash, Rishabh Pant had to undergo multiple surgeries, forcing him to miss the crucial games as well. He has been declared fit to participate in the tournament and keep wickets. With the IPL, Pant will be marking his return to cricket. Pant's return will infuse a sense of stability and firepower into the team, solidifying their chances of success.
With the firebrands like, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Axar Patel and Prithvi Shaw in their ranks, Delhi Capitals possess a formidable lineup capable of cartwheeling any robust opposition.
However, in a negative development for Capitals, they have been handed two blows leading up to the tournament with hard-hitting Harry Brook and sensational pacer Lungi Ngidi not being able to play due to their respective setbacks. Nonetheless, Capitals have a full-strength squad for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals would aim to address the challenges that cost them a lot in the previous season of the tournament. Delhi Capitals will start their IPL campaign by taking on Punjab Kings in the second match of the tournament on 23rd March.
Delhi Capitals Squad: Rishabh Pant (c) Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Prithvi Shaw, Khaleel Ahmed, Lalit Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Pravin Dubey, Tristan Stubbs, Jhye Richardson and Shai Hope, Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dhull, Vicky Ostwal, Abishek Porel, Ricky Bhui, Kumar Kushagra, Rasikh Dar, Sumit Kumar and Swastik Chikara.
