Harry Tactor and Benjamin White help Ireland secure victory against Afghanistan

Harry Tector and Benjamin White guided Ireland to a 38-run victory over Afghanistan in a thrilling first T20I encounter on Friday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, marking a significant victory and taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Ireland players overshadowed Afghanistan star Rashid Khan’s performance as he returned with impressive figures of 3-19 from his four overs.
From the outset, Ireland showed promising signs after they were put to bat by Rashid khan. Ireland made a serene start to the proceedings with openers Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling scoring (22) and (25) respectively. Harry Tector played a marvellous innings, bringing up 56 runs unbeaten to lead the side to 149/6 in (20) overs. Rashid Khan looked great in his performance as he made his return to the proceedings after four months.
In their pursuit of target, Afghanistan's innings got off to an unexpected start, with their top-order batsmen like Rahmanullah Gurbaz (0), Sediqullah Atal (1) and Ibrahim Zadran (11) not being able to provide the team a solid start. Ireland's bowlers remained unfazed, continuously applying pressure and picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals to stem the flow of runs. Benjamin White remained resolute, picking up four wickets.
Joshua Little and Barry McCarthy got three and two wickets respectively, bundling Afghanistan for (111) in (18.4) overs. With the win, Ireland lead the series 1-0 as Afghanistan would look for a comeback in the second game.
