Babar Azam returns as Pakistan’s white-ball captain

Pakistan star Babar Azam has returned as white-ball captain, just months after stepping down from the captaincy across all formats in the aftermath of ODI World defeat last year.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the re-appointment of Babar Azam on Sunday (31st March). Babar Azam's appointment will also bring an end to Shaheen Afridi's short stint as T20I skipper. In the last few days, there had been overtures regarding Babar Azam returning to captaincy, however all discussions have been put to rest with PCB announcing the appointment of Babar Azam.
"Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB's selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men's cricket team," the PCB posted on X.
PCB appointed Shaheen Afridi as the skipper in T20I format in November last year. Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan in just one series, which was against New Zealand, losing it by 1-4. Babar Azam’s first assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand at home beginning 18th April.
