Rohit’s ton in vain as Pathirana seals a thrilling win for CSK

Matheesha Pathirana bowled Chennai Super Kings to a 20-run victory over Mumbai Indians on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium. The victory ended CSK’s losing streak in away games. Pathirana was remarkably outstanding, returning with four wickets, including Suryakumar Yadav’s who was dismissed for a golden duck, from his four overs, giving away only (28) runs.
After being asked to bat, CSK’s batting prowess was on full display as they set an imposing target of (206) runs in (20) overs, thanks to outstanding innings from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (69) and Shivam Dube (66*) respectively. Their masterful knocks served as the backbone of CSK’s formidable total. Down the order, batting legend MS Dhoni played a blistering cameo, cracking (20) off four deliveries, including three consecutive sixes.
In response, Mumbai Indians fought valiantly but fell short of the target, managing to amass (186) runs in their stipulated (20) overs. MI’s Rohit Sharma, once skipper, played a scintillating innings, contributing with a remarkable knock of (105) runs to his team's total. However, it wasn't enough to overhaul CSK’s formidable score. Lack of partnerships contributed to Mumbai Indians’ defeat as they were restricted to (186) in (20) overs, with Rohit Sharma unbeaten on (105) off (63).
Young Pathirana was the star of the show with his outstanding bowling, taking the prized wickets of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma and Romario Shepherd. For disjointed Mumbai Indians, this is the fourth defeat of the tournament, having already registered three defeats in a row in the initial three games.
