Chamari Athapaththu rises to become new No.1 batter in women’s ODIs

Sri Lanka Women team skipper Chamari Athapaththu has ascended to the top position in the ICC’s batting rankings for women’s ODIs on the back of her outstanding innings during Sri Lanka’s third and final ODI against South Africa recently where she led the team to a six-wicket win in a record chase. 

Chamari Athapathu smacked an unbeaten 195-run knock, overshadowing SA skipper Laura Wolvaardt’s 184 unbeaten to lead the side to an epic win. 

During the third ODI against South Africa, Sri Lanka created a unique record, completing the highest successful chase in women’s ODI. Athapaththu’s 195 was the third-highest individual score in women’s ODIs. 

Meanwhile, West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews has advanced seven points to get to No. 11 after her impressive innings in the first two ODIs of the ongoing three-match series against Pakistan, belting 140 unbeaten and 44 in the first and second ODI respectively.
