“Might need a bit of tinkering”: Josh Hazlewood on ‘Impact player’ rule

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has begun his preparations for the T20I World Cup 2024 that is barely a month away. Having remained unavailable to participate in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 due to the birth of his child, Hazlewood will be joining team Australia in their campaign at the T20I World Cup on the back of preparations that he has been going through now. Though, Hazlewood did not leave his practice as he was optimistic of being called as the injury replacement in the IPL but that did not happen. Giving his take on ‘Impact Player’ rule in the ongoing Indian Premier League, Hazlewood feels batters are benefitting from it but it needs a bit of tinkering.
“Batting line-ups seem to be never-ending now, I’m not sure it’s a great rule,” Hazlewood said.
During this season of IPL, high-scoring games have been witnessed, with batters unleashing their brutal assault on bowlers. By far, bowlers have been at the receiving end, recording forgettable outings one after other. However, the batting display in the IPL has delighted the fans a lot.
“You got guys like Tim David at number eight, sometimes number nine, and it just sort of seems never-ending and you don’t really feel like to attack and try and get wickets in the power play because what’s the point when you got those guys coming in at those eight and nine spots."
“It’s an interesting role. Obviously, the crowd loves it. There are 200-plus scores every night and it’s good for batters but might need a bit of tinkering.”
