IPL 2024: Gill, Sudharsan’s masterpiece help GT thump CSK
Young firebrands Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s impressive masterclass innings, blasting (104) and (103) respectively, powered Gujarat Titans to a 35-run win over Chennai Super Kings on Friday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, keeping their playoffs hopes alive. It, however, wouldn’t have come at the best of times but GT still carry little avenues for their berth in playoffs.
Gill, smacking (104), combined with fellow opener Sai Sudharsan, who plundered (103), stitched the joint-highest opening partnership in the history of the Indian Premier League. Both batters’ crucial innings took GT to 231/3 in (20) overs.
Chasing the target, Chennai Super Kings faced an uphill task after being reduced to 2/2 inside two overs, with Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra losing their wickets in a matter of seconds. Ruturaj Gaikwad, coming at no 3, was dismissed by Umesh Yadav. Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali pumped up the scoring a bit, smashing (63) and (56) respectively but to no avail.
But after their dismissals, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja couldn’t show their skills, going back for (21) and (18) respectively. MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on (26) as CSK were restricted to 196/8 in (20) overs. With their defeat, CSK’s chances for the playoffs remain in a huge fix.
